Come celebrate Earth Day at the University of New Mexico’s 10th Annual Sustainability Expo! The event will be held on the Cornell Mall – east of the Student Union Building – on Thursday, April 19th from 10:30am to 2:30pm.
The Expo presents an opportunity to interact with campus and community groups such as the UNM Sustainability Studies Program, UNM Recycling, Lobo Gardens, the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program, the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice, and many other organizations. There will be a variety of displays and activities to participate in, including a growers’ market, book swap, and interactive demonstrations on sustainable living. Learn about sustainability in the community, connect with local experts, and check out some simple steps to take action at this student-organized event.
Be sure to stop by the growers’ market for lunch, and listen to live music by Le Chat Lunatique at noon. The Street Food Institute will be on site serving delicious food, and Heidi’s Raspberry Farm will have delectable jams available. Bring a reusable bag to take home fresh produce from Tres Hermanas Farm and Chispas Farms. There will be locally produced soap from South Valley Soap, and live screen printing from the T-shirt Lab. Pick up natural remedies from Ye Ole Kitchen Witch and some tomato starts for your spring garden from Growing Awareness Urban Farm. Connect with 350 New Mexico, a group that focuses on lowering carbon emissions by living more sustainably, and learn more about solar energy by talking to Energy ReVolt and Sol Luna Solar. There will also be an electric vehicle display, an interactive watershed model, cooking demonstrations, a vermicomposting setup, and a chicken petting area.
Multiple campus organizations are responsible for putting on this event including the UNM Sustainability Studies Program, the UNM Office of Sustainability, and UNM Parking and Transportation.
Please join us in celebration!
