The first Solar Fiesta was held on June 13 & 14, 1998 as a part of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) National Conference, Solar ’98: Renewable Energy for the America’s, which was held in Albuquerque, NM and hosted by NMSEA.
The associated event – Emerging Architecture: An Evening with Several Visionary Architects and Designers from the Southwest and Around the Country – featured presentations on “Earthships” by Mike Renolds; “Green Development” by William Browning from the Rocky Mountain Institute; and “Recent Creations” by Ed Mazria.
In the summer of 2000, NMSEA’s Rose Kern organized the first stand-alone NMSEA Solar Fiesta, which was held at the Bernalillo High School campus. Solar Fiesta has been a regular part of NMSEA’s outreach efforts ever since.
NMSEA Solar Fiestas combine a Renewable Energy & Sustainability Trade Show with an Educational Event. The NMSEA Solar Fiesta Committee typically starts planning the next Solar Fiesta at least 6 months ahead. There’s a LOT of work involved. Solar Fiestas couldn’t happen without the help of enthusiastic NMSEA volunteers.
Watch the NMSEA Event Calendar for the latest info about the next Solar Fiesta.
NMSEA now has a dedicated Solar Fiesta web site. For the latest in-depth details about the next Solar Fiesta (and a few photos & programs from the last one) –
